We make agreements with ourselves that create limitation and unhappiness in our lives. This is part four of my blog posts about The four agreements, by don Miguel Ruiz. The other three agreements seems so cliché compared to this one…
Be impeccable with your word.
Wow. I don’t know about you, but this is the toughest one for me. And the most important.
Not that I’m a compulsive liar or have an uncontrollable potty mouth, but this one requires a serious change of attitude. In a nutshell, what it means is: speak with integrity, say only what you mean, avoid using words to speak against yourself or to gossip about others, use the power of your words in the direction of truth and love. What I have taken from this, is to stop and think before I speak, Do my best, don’t assume, don’t make it about me and really listen to others without judgement. The hard part is how I “speak” to myself. All that negative talk we have within ourselves… Stop it. Stop comparing yourself. Start being the amazing person God made you to be. If you make these four agreements with yourself, you can’t lose. You will be the best you can be, you will have peace with others around you, and you will be in a place of truth and love, always.
You can avoid so much suffering, self-judgement and self-abuse and regret just by following these four agreements. How nice would it be to be in consistent state of truth and love. Take a moment to imagine it. Meditate on it. Live it. Watch your life transform.
